no sound

I have Fedora Core 2 (FC2) installed on a dual boot system with FC2 on a 2nd 40 GB HDD, and Window$ XP Pro on #1 120 GB HDD. System is a Dell 2.4 GHZ, 1024 MB RAM.

Sound works fine on Windoze side, but no sound emanates on the FC2. Have tried the 'Sound ...' configuration feature in FC2, but still do not get any 'chords' to play nor any CD's. Both CDRom drives will play music CD's in Win XP.

Also have FC2 on a PIII, 512 MB RAM with no other OS installed. No sound on that system either, but sound was working on Windows before I re-formated the HDD and installed FC2.

Any suggestions on why sound is inoperative?

Additionally, just purchased a Kodak DX7630 digital camera, 32 MB internal memory and 128 MB SD card., but camera not shown on FC2 listing. Any idea how to get FC2 to recognize the camers if it isn't listed? This camera is the latest Kodak unit on the market insofar as I can tell, so how to get drivers for FC2?

Any help appreciated.

for sound try:

alsamixer

turn volume up on all channels

for camera try with root privileges:

mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera

that should let you at least see the files stored on the flash. (I don't have that camera, but this trick has worked for most models that i have tried.)

p.s. to remove device type

umount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera

MB chipset? There is some problems with nForce2 chips - you must download native driver for nForce2 chipset from nvidia.com, install it and edit some conf. files - see the installation notes.
If there is some other, not nForce2, try to use alsamixer to unmute your sound and then "alsactl store" to save your settings.

Question

MERMXX and OMAR773 - I've no idea what alsa is.... Is it part of the system already DL or do I need to acquire it? lscpi?

Volume is turned up on all channels but still no sound. The card is in workign condition because I can play music CD's in Win XP mode.

Try:
Code:
service alsasound restart
...or make a new ALSA installation, if there is no such service.
PS - if you are using KDE - see what sound system is in the control center -> sound & multimedia and choose ALSA.
And show us -
Code:
lsmod - soundcore
