no /etc/grub.conf ??

I have no /boot/grub/grub.conf

I installed Fedora Core 3 and used yum to update the kernel. When I reboot to use the new kernel it wasn't in the list of available kernels. So I went to alter /etc/grub.conf and it doesn't exist! Yet when I boot up I get a grub menu and I can pick between an old kernel and "other".

I don't even know where to begin to look for an answer to this. I wish I had some kind of error message.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sounds odd

You can enter
whereis grub
in konsole or shell to see where gub is

Should be at
/boot/grub/grub.conf

Should be a link at /etc/grub.conf
/sbin/grub
/usr/share/grub
/usr/share/man/man8/grub.8.gz

I never could find grub. and in the process of trying to fix it I hosed it. (I got the GRUB screen when I rebooted). So I grabbed a linux rescue disk (aka my installation disks), typed linux rescue, chroot /mnt/sysimage, grub-install /dev/dha, and ta da....all fixed.

I am still having the problem where the newest kernel I installed via yum is not showing up in the list of kernels in the grub menu, but I'm reinstalling the kernel without my second harddrive attached to see if that changes anything.

Thanks.
