No alsa sound after upgrade in fc6

I upgraded from kernel 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5 to 2.6.20-1.2933
After that I also upgraded alsa ( libs and devel and all other alsa things ) from 1.0.13 to 1.0.14rc1.

After that I can't get any application aplay playwave and mplayer to use alsa pcm output. oss works fine and soundcard detection also plays and finds my soundcard.

I am using ALC883 drivers ( Intel HDA ), Anyone else familiar with this problem or know any ideas how to solve this?

Could you run this script and post the resulting url? It will give me the necessary information to see if your system is properly supported in alsa. You may just need to install a newer version of the alsa drivers.

Based on posts in http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=151248
my conclusion is that it is alsa version 1.0.14rc1 problem.

But one strange thing. XMMS works with alsa plugin but not with default device. Have to use hw 0:0 as output. Same thing was reported in fedoraforums. Will check if I can choose different alsa output device with mplayer.

Based on your pastebin output, there is no current out-of-the-box support for your system in alsa. Before, it may have worked partially through the autoconfig routines, but those have changed recently. There is more support for your system, though, it's just a matter of figuring out which works best.

Try unloading and reloading the driver in a shell console as follows:

modprobe -r snd-hda-intel
lsmod|fgrep snd|awk '{print $1}'|xargs rmmod
modprobe snd-hda-intel model=<model>

where <model> is one of the following:
3stack-dig
3stack-6ch-dig
3stack-6ch
6stack-dig
targa-dig
targa-2ch-dig
6stack-dig-demo
acer
medion
laptop-eapd

Let me know what one works best with your system. Also, can you post the motherboard make/model info?

If none of these enable all of the audio features of your system, then we'll have to do some extensive patching.

Following works but I can't adjust sound volume in mplayer.
Code:
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=00.00
Also xmms can't change sound volume unless I use software volume mixer.

My mobo comes from Asrock http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...ual-VSTA&s=775
