I am a very new user of Fedora Core 5 and I would just like to know how I check the version of my kernel and if needs be how to update the kernel.

as root in a command prompt (terminal) type
Code:
sudo uname -a
that should give all the information you'll ever want.
As far as kernel updates just type (as root)
Code:
yum update
if a newer version is needed it will install it.
If you open a terminal just type
Code:
su -

Su root is not a requirement for "uname -a", you can be any user
hth

You can also go to rpmfind.org and just download the rpm for the kernel you desire.
