Newbie Needs help With Atheros Wireless Card Please
Hi everyone,
I am very new to Linux, and have decided that FC5 is the distro that works best on my laptop. However, FC5 doesn't seem to recognise my Atheros AR5005G wireless card. I'm guessing that there must be drivers that I can download for it, but could somebody please recommend a website where I can get them; what is the name of the driver that I need? As I said, I'm really new to Linux and I zone out at anything too technical !! :-) Thanks very much in advance for any help or advice. Cheers... |
for atheros use a program called madwifi.

Atheros prob??
Hi,
I've just installed Ubuntu and it recognises the Atheros AR5005G card with no problems at all. I've no idea how to go through all this madwifi etc. stuff, though - so if all else fails at least you know that there's one distro at least that does support the card without the need for ndiswrapping or any other malarky. The problem I had was that I was trying to do too much - ie entering in all my IP addresses, subnet mask etc. that I had to enter in windows. In ubuntu, all I had to do (as I realised eventually) was to enable the wireless connection, enter the ESSID name, type in the hex code (WEP), and leave set at DHCP - and it sorted everything else out for itself as if by magic! Hope this is of some help Steve |
