My Slackware 10.1 system boots just fine with the sata.i kernel (version 2.4.29) yet when I compile a 2.6.12.2 kernel with sata (under low-level SCSI options) and AHCI I boot to a kernel panic (boot device). Recompiled with advice found on another thread but getting the same error at the same point.

EDIT: Solved it: I had forgotten to run lilo and rewrite the boot sector when I had re-re-compiled. It was a silly mistake, sorry to waste your time.

Please do not erase your problem to say you've solved it. This practise takes away from the community without giving back.

Instead - keep the problem statement, then reply to yourself saying what you did to solve the problem. Then other newbies - slightly more new than you - will be able to search this board and end up really grateful to you. You also increase your standing on the board that way.

Remember - your title should be discriptive of your question. "Newbie Questn" is just not good enough. It even suggests that you don't even care enough to spell "question". There are examples in the tutorials.

First, I erased it because it was truly a stupid mistake that's been covered over 9 billion times on this board - I forgot to executle lilo -v after making changes to lilo.conf. I posted prematurely becasue I assumed it was a bigger issue since I'd been having problems over several attempts compiling the 2.6.12.2 kernel and didn't want to hijack someone else's thread with my problem. By the same token, I didn't want to waste a more savvy person's time. Therefore, I erased it.

Second, the title was an obvious typo and vague only because I was asking for help on multiple issues in a single thread - more than could have possibly been described effectively in a concise one-line title. Not really deserving of a flame, especially when considering every other post I've made and my attention to both spelling and grammar.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more newbish newb on these boards so I'm already in the humbling position of "taking from the community and not giving back." As such, I do appreciate all the help I've been given and am not in the "practise" of taking anyone for granted nor disrespecting them with intentional or negligent misspellings... incidentally, I always proofread and edit mistakes I make but that's not possible with the title.

Spelling errors, don't bother me much because most people on this forum make them. Regardless of how useless you think your post was, just don't delete it, edit it.

Re-edited the original post with a paraphrased version. I'll be sure to post solutions instead of editing in the future, regardless of how stupid my mistake was. ;)
