Network manager not recognizing wired network

I created a Fedora 28 install usb stick using unetbootin on a Windows 8.1 notebook with a wireless connection. When I install Fedora on a workstation using a wired connection, I have no network connection. The nic card shows connectivity and pinging the local host gives me a response. How do I reset the network manager to recognize the wired network?

HAve you attempted to set the interface characteristics in the network settings?

More generally: what have you tried and what happened?

I tried the basics, checking the network cable, pinging the network card. I did some reading on NetworkManager, but the manual says to download the interface which is not possible. I guess I'll have to do more reading.

Yes. More information please. Make an model of the laptop might help.

Presumptions: Your doing a dual-boot on a laptop.
The wireless network is working.

Is there a switch (hardware or software) that disables the wired LAN connection when wireless is active?
