Network connectivity issue

I have installed fedora 12 recently. After installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP address, Netmask, Gateway address and even DNS servers. In the start services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even then my computer could not connect to the internet.
I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful.
Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual. There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background that is currently disabledand I cannot select them. Is this the problem for the lost network connectivity? Can you help me out.
I am new to linux and this is the first time i tried to use linux and it has failed. Help me out. Thanks and regards

Yes, something broke...
Open the network configuration.
On the Devices Tab, select edit your device (et0). Another window will open. Deselect "Controlled by NetworkManager". Then you will see the activate buttons which did work.

I guess for the time being, until an a fix is issued, you're going to have to enable the network connection this way.

Things will go more smoothly if you start your own thread for that (it gets very confusing if people are answering more than one question in the same thread and experts on your subject may not look at a network thread).

You can find out how to ask questions effectively at LQ's How To Ask a Question.
