nautius fails to load under fc5

Have recent installation of FC5, ran OK for several days using Gnome then nautilus crashed and refuses to start again.
Error when run from terminal gives the following
nautilus: symbol lookup error: nautilus: undefined symbol: g_type_register_static_simple

This is the same for all users including /root

Have googled with no luck and have tried to re-install nautilus also with no luck.
Am currently using KDE which seems fine but would like to solve problem if possible.
Any ideas ?

reinstall the entire gnome environment - or try to guess which file has died on you. It will be a nautilus dependency like, say, gtk+ ?

Or, install KDE :)

As I said above I have and am using KDE, but would like to solve the issue and understand at the same time

OK: well... whenever you get something like "undefined symbol" in something you know is well built, it is a sign that a key component, usually a library, has gone missing. So this leads me to suspect that one or more of the GNU Network Object Model Environment dependencies has become corrupted.

http://www.gnome.org/
http://developer.gnome.org/doc/GGAD/
... for information on how this works.

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-d.../msg00167.html
... is a discussion about g_type_register_static_simple, which places it in the gtk toolkit someplace.
