nautilus - right-click options disabled

I don't know what's happened, but I tried to check the properties of a file by right-clicking it in nautilus and although I can see the 'properties' entry it's no longer highlighted and I can't select it. I wanted to set application preferences for opening the file, but can't do it this way. Does anyone know why this happened and how to make it work the way it used to?

Thanks in advance

Just a thought for you:

The right click menu is called the 'actions menu'. I remember looking the conf files using the conf editor under system-tools. You can go under nautilus and disable/enable a lot of features to make your system more/less secure. Perhaps, and this is just a wild guess, there is an actions menu option available and it has been set to disable.

Hope this helps or atleast leads u somewhere,

Thansk for your reply.

Nautilus crashed a couple of times after I wrote my message.
I then rebooted to boot into e new kernel and ...voilá, everything is back to normal. I haven't a clue what's happened, but it works again; so be it.
