MythTV, Mythdora and Fedora woes.......
I am pretty sure I will be staying with windows now unless some one can convince me otherwise. don't get me wrong, fedora is a nice distro and everything but for what I need, XP MCE is what I need. I have tried to use fedora 6 then install Mythtv but my KWORLD ATSC 115 card never got to working. Then later on, I thought I'd try Mythdora (the newest version 4.0 with Fedora 6 and kernel-2.6.20-1.2944.fc6) and I did manage to finally get it working. The problem is, when I watch HDTV, the video is very laggy and constantly stutters(There is no real difference between 720p and 1080i). I tried changing many of the playback settings and also tried just recording something and then watching it. But, I never could get it to work properly.

My Specs:
Dell E510 P4 HT 3.2GHz
Intel Mobo
1GB memory
2x Western digital 160GB SATA2
Audigy 4 soundcard
ATI x300 128mb

If anyone can tell me exactly why I can't get this to work properly (other that my video card) then please, by all means, do so. But if it turns out to be my video card, then I will just stick with WinXP for now and use my BeyondTV software which gives me no such problems.

Are you outputting to a tv? Or just capturing it on your computer?

What are your settings for myth-tv and what resolution do you have your output on your card set to? I had an ati card with similar problems so I tweaked myth a bit and then realized it was pulling the resolution off my monitor settings. It was trying to display 1280x1024 on a standard tv (which we all know wont work) and looked horrible. Even after fixing the resolution it still was a little laggy, and had lines but that is easily fixed within myth.

I am outputing to my monitor. my monitor is my TV because it is an HD monitor (HD Ready but it does have a PC input:D I am ordering a cable that is a DVI-HDMI. I am wondering if that might make a difference) My resolution is 1280x720 or sometimes it is 1280x768. All I want to do with this is be able to record the HD programs I want and be able to play them back at a later time. So my use is for playback and capturinng. If you would be so kind as to tell me what you did in your settings, It would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

I was outputting to a tv. However you are trying to put a tv resolution image on a screen that is bigger. In which case it will look horrible. Make sure myth is set to resize the screen down to tv resolution. And yes the dvi cable will help some.

wait, why would it do that if i were to put the resolution at the straight 720p res? This confuses me. The only thing I want to do is watch HDTV and not have to convert any resolutions (except when watching 1080i with my NBC station). That confuses me that it has to rescale the HD image to my HD monitor with the resolution set to 1280x720. Please elaborate. Thanks though.
