MySql Startup Under FC5

I just installed MySql under FC5 through yumex with no apparent problems. However, when I start up MySql I get the following message:

Could not connect to LIN3800
MySql error nr. 2003
can't connect to MySql server on Lin3800 (111)

LIN3800 is the machine with MySql on it and it can ping itself.

Any suggestions?

The goal is to be able to convert a MSAccess database (from Office 2000) that has lots of embedded graphics (photos) so that it can be converted to sql format and then brought into the Open Office database program.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

do lsof -i on LIN3800.

you should see the mysql daemon listening on certain ports.

if not start the server with mysqld_safe &
