my computer freezes in firefox
I just installed Fedor Core 11-x86_64 and like the snappy boot time (30 seconds) and it seems stable when I browse the internet with konqueror. However, when I open up a couple tabs in Firefox the entire system freezes...no mouse and no keys-all I can do is hit the power button. I haven't found threads about this, so maybe it's just me. Would there be error messages outputted by Firefox?

I believe that this is a known problem with the FF beta version.
I have had the problem since i installed F11. However in the latest update of FF the problem seems to be fixed. |
nice! Which version is beta?
EDIT: you're right...FC11 put a beta version of firefox in their release-firefox 3.5Beta4. Strange!! I'm going to install firefox 3.0.11 and that should fix it. Oh-distrowatch gives the specs on the packages installed to FC11. |
How do I have yum upgrade to something stable like 3.0.11?
|
I'd like to know this as well. The whole changing from the Firefox Beta to 3.0.11.
Had I known about this beforehand I would've stuck to Fedora 10. At least for the time being. |
Firefox 3.5 stable is in yum now for x86_64. It was stable till I started adding extensions or add ons to it. I found that firefox has options if started from the terminal which helped me uninstall addons that froze my pc. Type firefox --help at a terminal to see the options. The ad block add on froze my pc. Right now I just have no script, flash block and the noia extreme extension.

The Firefox Beta in FC11 was relatively stable. It was Firefox themes and add-ons thet were unstable.
|
I'm seeing that. But its' scary to know that addons and themes can freeze your entire system. Aren't those additions user preferences-you should need root priveleges to mess up the system.
|
K. I just gave running Firefox in safe mode a shot, and everything froze up.Well the mouse moves but that's it.
Any thoughts? |
disable all addons and themes...do firefox --help to find the exact command. A menu should pop up before firefox fully loads that asks you what to enable/disable
|
Firefox options
-h or -help print this message -v or -version print firefox version -P <profile> start with <profile> -Migration start with migration wizard -profilemanager start with profile manage -no-remote new instance no window in running instance -UTLocale <locale> start with <locale> resources as UI locale -safe-mode run in safe mode disable extensions and themes for this session -jsconsole Error console This is all, except Safemode, as clear as mud to me. And I'm still having Issues. any suggestions on downgrading to 3.0.11? That worked so well for me. |
ok-here's exactly what I did:
firefox -safe-mode -no-remote A Safe Mode menu pops up: Check "Disable all add-ons" Click on "Make Changes and Restart" After about 10 seconds a firefox window opens. To re-enable the extensions in a new firefox session, you need to go to Tools>Add-ons>Extensions I'm not sure how to downgrade firefox with yum. You could go to getfirefox.com and download the bunzip2 package. |

just did it...here's what to do in a terminal:
wget -c http://mozilla2.snt.utwente.nl/firef...3.0.11.tar.bz2 bunzip2 firefox-3.0.11.tar.bz2 tar -xvf firefox-3.0.11.tar cd firefox ./firefox |
wget according to terminal for me isn't a legit command.
