Multi-processer upgrade in FC4

I have FC4 installed on a PIII system (Dell PE2300) that has one processor, but can accept two. I am planning on installing a second processor.

I assume that I need to install the SMP kernel.
Can some-one advise on how to do this?

My CD set has a 'kernel-smp-...rpm' file which I assume is a binary, and that I can copy that to the appropriate folder, but which is that and what files need to be where? (I have not changed a kernel before.)

Should the 2nd processor be installed before or after the kernel change?

Any help would be appreciated.

No need to copy anything, from the console or xterm session type;

rpm -ivh <the_file_name_of the_kernel_package_you_want_to_install_here>

This way the smp and non-smp kernels are available when booting.

As far as when (before or after the 2nd processor is installed) it does not matter just choose the correct kernel (smp or not) when booting.

Multiprocessor in FC4

Thanks. I downloaded the smp rpm and installed it as you said. I had to edit grub.conf to comment out the 'hiddenmenu' line and adjust the timeout so as to allow kernel choice.

The system is up and running fine with the 2nd processor and the smp kernel, at least so far. I'll make the smp kernel the default if it continues to run.
