Mplayerplug-in Audio Problem
I am having problems with the audio in mplayerplug-in. I can play and hear .wma files clear but when I open .mpg files the audio is static and unclear. I tried to set the settings in mplayerplug-in to video=X11, audio=alsa. Any ideas?

Is there any console output from decoding the wma's and mpeg's?
You might try re-compiling or re-installing mplayer and it's codecs. It might solve your problem.
Another thing to consider is the audio output sink itself. Can you open mpeg's with another program and experience similar problems?
To run mplayer from a console...
open up a terminal and run the code below -- it's going to use alsa as its audio sink( -ao alsa ), and it's going to give extra details when you run it ( -v ).
Code:
mplayer -ao alsa -v path.to.audio.file
Could you post back what it says?
Don't forget that when you post, it helps to put the console output inside a pair of code tags.

Oh, when I put
Code:
mplayer -ao alsa -v path.to.audio.file
I really meant for you to replace path.to.audo.file with the actual media file. =)
I looked at the output anyways, and (from what I can tell), it looks like mplayer might work, but let's see what it does with an actual media file.
Oh, and don't worry about me not seeing your replies - I've got the forums setup to email me when a new reply is posted to any of mine, so even if you wait another month, I'll still see it =P

When I looked at the output, it looks like it decoded and played correctly. Is that the case?
About the static and unclearness -> Try uninstalling and reinstalling - You will be amazed as to what this fixes sometimes.
I'm not able to discern what's up from looking at the output. =(
I'm not all that knowledgable, but it might not be mplayer, but one of its codecs or plugins instead. Don't forget to reinstall all of the mplayer related stuff aswell.
Let me know how the reinstall goes.

Fourchannel, the video plays perfect. The audio is still static. I did a reinstall last night and this is the new result. wmv files play and sound perfect. I'll keep trying. I think I am going to play with the win32 codecs. I have two other computers running Fedora. One core 5 and a laptop running core 6. The both play mplayerplug-in just fine. This is baffling. Thank you for your help, Bob

No problem man. Sorry I couldn't help ya any further at the momemt, but good luck though. Post back what you find out and maybe we can figure out a new direction to head in if you still need help with this.
One more thought: Have you looked at the alsa sound system, or tried to play it using another sound system like OSS (Open Sound System)?
I also found this link, showing how to use the OpenAL sound system.
It might make a difference, or give us some insight.
