Mplayer, Xine, Xvideo lag and video problems in FC5

Okay, this is a very interesting problem.

First off, I have a Voodoo 3 card. Now, in FC4, I had no problems in playing various video formats with the default xvideo driver in Kplayer (this applies to Xine and Mplayer also). The measured CPU usage was approx. 40% with a standard XviD video file. However, when I clean installed FC5 a few days ago, a unique video problem arose.

In Kplayer, I first tried to play a video using the X11/XVideo driver. I noticed a spike in CPU usage compared to FC4. That same file was now needing 70% in order to decode. I tried the regular X11 video driver that I was using before...85% CPU usage, and it was lagging that particular video file, while it never lagged with the old distribution.

At first, I thought it was an MPlayer issue. So, I installed the latest version of MPlayer. It still had that particular issue.

Then, I tried upgrading FFMpeg...still didn't help.

I tried other players such as Xine and VLC...same issue.

Does someone have any idea what this particular issue is?

Do you have the same issue outside of X?

Did you try running a movie in console?

Perhaps it is the X server, rather the the applications..
