Mplayer plugin can't play video from cnn.com

Hi friends,

I am very happy with the fresh install of FC6, i386, with the livna repos enabled. I have everything working properly, all codecs, maplayer, xine, vlc, flash 9 and all the non-free stuff. Basically i followed the "fedora-solved" website, and I am a happy camper !

However, there's one little problem :

On Firefox 1.5.0.9, I try to watch cnn.com (or lci.fr) videos.

The screen opens, it says it is connecting (mplayer plugin), I hear a brief second of sound, and then it says "stopped", and it goes back to connecting again and again...

I was using Mandriva 2007 for 3 months without this issue...

Maybe there's a tweak to be done in the config of that mplayer plugin...

If any of you has an idea, that will help me a great deal !

Thanks in advance for your time !

As a follow up that might be of some help for other readers, here's a temporary solution :

I opened the video I wanted to play, let's say it's one from cnn.com. Mplayer plugin kept on reconecting... But I right-clicked the video, and chose "copy URL". Then I opened VLC, and played the URL, and the video plays fine...

It is not perfect, but it allows me to watch the news...

If any of you has a better idea, do not hesitate !

;)

When you first use the mplayerplug-in, you need to configure the video and audio drivers. You will need to do this, right click and click on properties. A new box will open. Under video, select the x11 driver, and for audio, select the alsa driver. Re-start firefox, and that should take care of it. I've had the same problems in the past, and doing this always fixes the problem. I hope this helps you out.
