mplayer needs nvidia-kernel?

Could someone please tell me what's going on:
Code:

[root@killbill ~]# yum install mplayer
....(setting up, processing etc)
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: missing dep: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.724_FC3 for pkg kernel-module-nvidia-2.6.9-1.724_FC3

1) My kernel is vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667, supplied w distro when installing (ftp-installation)
My video-card is intel 810, driver according to /etc/X11/xorg.conf is "i810"
Why nvidia-kernel-module?
2) Why does mplayer suddenly need to replace my kernel???
3) The real interresting question: What can I do about it?

Where did you get the package you installed?

pingu 04-08-2005 05:04 AM

What package?
I haven't installed anything yet, started with mplayer.

Are you using the SLAX killbill live CD? I thought that came with mplayer already!

OOpssss...
Sorry, forgot to tell what distro:
Fedora Core 3, installed a few days ago. Using the yum.conf from http://www.fedorafaq.org/
'killbill' is the computername, since this school has only Windows (so far...)

Sorry I meant which repository are you trying to install the package from.

I don't think it's anyone's fault.

http://darkshram.dyndns.org/lpt/rpm2....lpt.i686.html

This is what it basically says:
Quote:

This is Nvidia's graphics driver for linux-x86 computers. Currently
only x86 arch's are supported. This package is build for
kernel%{variant} 2.4.21-27.0.2.EL built for i686

Umm... well, Fedora's + Livna - but I tried again and now it worked!
Maybe a repo was temporarily unavailable, or some temp network error?
I'll try a few more times before asking next time - I have had serious problems with yum before, therefore my impatience.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

I tend to find dag and freshrpms more reliable than livna and newrpms.

sbassett 04-08-2005 08:41 AM

I agree with reddazz, the dag/freshrpms seem more complete and the repos tend to be a bit more reliable.
