Question MPlayer???

Gee I guess its great that FC6 has a new packege manager. And I think it's great that it has mplayer fonts and skins. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be mplayer which the above depend on??? Where do I go to get mplayer in FC 6? For those of us who aren't guru's where's Stanton Finley? I'm not saying a word about Ubuntu or Automatix...

All you need is:

Setup yum for access to the Livna repository:

Code:
rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
Install any of the media software you want/need for example:

Code:
yum install mplayer xine vlc ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-ugly transcode mencoder
I also recommend:

Code:
rpm -e --nodeps totem
yum install totem-xine
It's not in the box, but two or three copy/paste operations isn't so bad.

Thanks I did as suggested. Is there a problem with having the livna repo enabled as well as the ones Stanton Finley reccomends [dries, freshrpms, and macromedia]?

In general, there's no problem; those repositories get along well.

You could try Fedora Frog, which installs alot of programs for Fedora Automatically....

Not sure if it works with FC6 yet, but it should be OK with FC5

Mplayer comes with a basic set of codecs, but if you want a larger set, you can get them here.

There is an included readme file. Basically, just create a '/usr/lib/codecs' directory, and place the files in there. You can create a symlink for older software that looks for them in '/usr/lib/win32':

ln -s /usr/lib/codecs /usr/lib/win32

You can also install RealPlayer, so that you can play Real files with the official codec. Instructions are in here.
