Yup, works fine. Though it's not as smooth as mplayer and fullscreen doesn't work so well...

nOOb Help

Hi...I am somewhat new to linux and use ubuntu. i was able to watch mlb.tv premium by using the nextdef jars and flash plugin but it was still choppy and i had some problems with full screen.

I've been trying to follow this thread since it seems you are all able to watch games without using the flash player. the thread is over my head in terms of technical details. i found the mlbviewer page on sourceforge.net but i dont see any how-to or instructions. does something like that exist? where could i find it?

thanks in advance

My understanding is that right at this moment the developer is writing a set of instructions on how to use Mlbviewer for his new edition of mlbviewer that is coming shortly.

So hold tight, not using the flashplayer is definitely worth the trouble it takes to set up mlbviewer.

It is a marvelous little program and it is incredible what daftcat has done in his spare time while Mlb spends millions in all likely hood supplying its normal users with an inferior product.

So, I'm a non-premium user running a netbook with Linpus Linux (fedora-based).

I'm hoping just to get audio running at this point. I installed rtmpdump, suds and pyxml.

When I run mlbplayer.py (rev. 187) and select a game and press a, I get some text in the Terminal and then mplayer starts but mplayer just says "reading from stdin" and no audio happens.

Has anyone seen something like this? If I run debug mode, it prints the rtmpdump command what looks like a reasonable url. Any ideas?

What version of rtmpdump do you have? r198 (and mplayer reading from stdin) requires rtmpdump 1.5. You'll also need to patch it with the patches from the mlbviewer tree.

Thanks.

I have rtmpdump 1.5a from sourceforge. I applied the patch from mlbviewer, yes. Is r198 a typo? I have mlbviewer r187 which is the latest.

I see this at the end of the Terminal window:

Code:

(The KB number counts up to the cache size in my config is the last thing that happens.)

Maybe I need a newer mplayer? I have MPlayer 1.0rc1-4.1.2.

Yes, r198 was a typo. I overshot on the numpad.

Anyway, looks like rtmpdump is working fine. What is your audio player command?

And yes, I would update mplayer. If you build from svn, you will have the latest updates necessary to play premium video, if that interests you.

For audio only, you probably don't need to update MPlayer. If mplayer says, "Reading from stdin", you're very close. I would add "-really-quiet" to your audio_player command in the config file ($HOME/.mlb/config)

Code:
audio_player=mplayer -cache 256 -really-quiet
It seems that lower end machines, like a netbook, do better when mplayer just shuts up about everything it's doing including it's running timer. I know my lower end laptop, 750 Mhz x 256 mb RAM won't play video or audio unless I add -really-quiet to the mplayer command.

Actually, right at that moment I was definitely catching up on some long overdue sleep. I think I came down with the housecat flu. I just want to stay home, curl in front of the space heater, and sleep all day.

I am working on documentation. I was thinking about a writing a fetch-and-build script but I won't have time to test it thoroughly. Instead, I'll try to write a script that tests for the requirements and produces a help file on the fly for the missing requirements.

So yes, hang tight. A general release of mlbviewer with (hopefully) sufficient newbie documentation should be ready by either Monday or Tuesday at the latest. (I'm still not done with a very busy weekend of dancing/competing.)

YES!

Finally got mlbviewer running on my PS3!!! Turns out the distribution version of 'java' with Yellow Dog Linux doesn't run autobahn correctly, so I got rid of it, got the IBM version of jre, installed it and it runs autobahn perfectly!

Ran mlbviewer and lo and behold, baseball on the PS3!!!

BUT

I cannot get mplayer to launch full screen, or zoom, or respond to key presses. If I run mplayer with -fs it just shows a little window with a huge black border, if I run -zoom it's just the same.

What would be the best command line to run mplayer full screen?

SVN revision 188: Sourceforge release candidate 2

I thought about implementing the session interface to minimize the number of login/logout operations but I think there's more testing that needs to be done.

Included in Sourceforge RC2:

+ Removed DVR-POLICY file since mlbdvr.py is no longer included in svn
+ Merged 2009 changes into README-2008 and renamed README-2008 to README
+ Removed README-2008 so we have a single README.
+ Put a pointer in INSTALL to REQUIREMENTS-2009.txt.

In other words, RC2 is just documentation changes. I would however appreciate it greatly if anyone reviewed the README and REQUIREMENTS-2009.txt files to see if the documentation is clear and complete.

It sounds like a video output / driver issue with mplayer and the PS3.

A quick Google search comes up with:

http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?p=59160

You may want to try this or you may want to do a more extensive Google search to see if this information is still valid.

Here, try this page:

http://wiki.ps2dev.org/ps3:mediacenter

Start the instructions about half-way down the page at the heading: "Install SPU Medialib"

Basically, you're going to want to grab the libraries necessary for PS3 accelerated drivers, then the patch for mplayer, then recompile mplayer. If you've already build mplayer from svn, these instructions should be relatively trivial for you at this point.

Good luck!

Thanks...

Felt now I've run a marathon to get to the candy shop only to find it doesn't open for another two hours...

Where can one find RC2 and the readme?
