Hey guys, well the title pretty much explains it all. This happened just a while ago; shortcuts located in "Places" (except for Computer and Network) won't open anymore!
Perhaps a little more information would help: E.g., Display manager? (GNOME, KDE, ?), Widgets installed? Using Plasma? Which version of the display manager? Have you applied all updates or just the security ones? Anything else that might be helpful?
Geostegma, your not alone, mine decided to go nuts tonight...
Being that its the menu "places", most would know that thats a gnome menu item...
I would love to know about a way of altering this menu item, it just seems very buggy with F9...
Anyway none of the latest updates will fix it, and you may have to submit a bug report, I think I shall do the same...
I would like to know if you used the live disc to install from or not...
I came across this issue with the dvd install and my laptop is installed from a live image...so it seems its not the install from my perspective anyway...
Ok dont know if this will help you but it is what I came up with that fixed it easily...
open up Nautilus in your home directory...
I used the link on the desktop...
Go to view in the menu at the top and click, "show hidden files"
then scroll down to .local/share/downloads (PS.. /.local/share/codeina/downloads my appologies but this is the correct directory...)
if your right click on downloads, go to properties and into
tab labelled "open with"
click on "Open folder"
This cured my problem and may fix yours...
Its not that hard to do and should correct the problem...
I am buggered if I know how the change occured but it has fixed it now...
Sorry for the late reply: '.local/share/downloads' doesn't exist.
All the directories I have are applications, audacious, codeina, desktop-directories, mime and Trash; I tried opening several of them with 'Open Folder' but nothing changed.
I believe you're on the right track though, because lately instead of not opening my folders, they open them through my preferred audio player; first XMMS and now Audacious.

My mistake, oops
try /home/<homefoldername>/.local/share/codeina/downloads
then you can right click for properties and go to "open with" and specify ' open folder '
this is easy under nautilus...
sorry about forgetting /codeina directory...
ps since doing this change it has worked perfectly...my excuse for not giving the correct info is I have taken on the family horse stud due to my mother going in for heart surgery and retiring because of it...my appologies, I do have a lot on my plate now...
Computers are going to be taking a back seat all together now...
