Massice FC 2 Problem!!!

Hi,

This morning I turned my Fedora Core 2 machine on and it all started fine but when it got to "Red Hat nash version 3.5.22 starting" (Or something simular) it doesnt go beyond that point! I have tried the "linux rescue" method but it freezes when trying to serach for Fedora Core Installations... But I can skip that and go straight to the command line rescue thing but no commands work like "su" etc... Im really stuck, a) I cant get my files out of there to save and b) I cant even install Fedora Core 2 again cause it needs to serach for Fedora Core installtions!!!

PLEASE help

Thanks,

EG

Where are you with this problem? Have you tried using a livecd distro to recover your files?

The only thing I can think of is to
1) Open the case
2) Take out the HD
3) Get a baseball bat
4) Go for a 'Grand Slam'

:D

You may have to buy a new HD... :(

I had problems booting Red Hat Linux 8.0 when I had a bad stick of RAM in my computer. Windows booted and ran fine for the most part, it was a very subtle problem. Might want to run memtest.

Try use something like Knoppix and see if that will boot. It might just allow you to save all your data and then either go for a new install, or try narrow down what is causing the problem.
