Making SATA drives go to sleep

Im using FC3 and i want to make some disks go to sleep while they arent in use, but the drives that are emulated as scsi wont work
the but ide works.

i use the hdparm, but i only get this:

[root@FTP ~]# /sbin/hdparm -S 240 /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
setting standby to 240 (20 minutes)
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(setidle1) failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

is there no way to get this to work for scsi emulated disks?

I've wanted to be able to do thus for a while. I have a SATA drive that I don't use much, sitting there spinning all the time. It gets very hot even with a cooler.

Any ideas anyone?
