I am having some trouble with the nVidia drivers. It installed and I was able to "startx" after the installation but after rebooting, I could no longer do it. I got an error saying that the module couldn't be used or found or something (I can't remember.) Using "insmod nvidia" before "startx" fixes the problem so I assume that the module just isn't getting loaded. So, how and where would I go to add a module at startup? Also, when I installed the drivers, I got a warning about a possible conflict with a module called rivafb. I am thinking that may be why the nVidia driver is not loading at startup. How would I go about disable it?
With a little editing, that did work... kind of. Through a little trial and error, I ended up using "insmod nvidia" just like I used in the console. However, apparently rc.local doesn't get used early enough in the startup process for FC3's graphic startup to work. Everything starts up in text mode and then it automatically restarts X11 when it get to the login screen. It works and I hate to knit pick but is there somewhere else to put the command where the module will be loaded before it switches to runlevel 5?
The solution that I gave you was a workaround to an issue with the latest Nvidia drivers. That said, there are ways to make the module load earlier in the startup process (you could create a startup shell script and place it in /etc/rc.d/rc1.d, make sure to make it executable (chmod 771 filename) and begins with a capital S), but that would not make the gui load earlier. I have to defer on that one... : (

Okay. I'll give the shell workaround a try and see if that does what I'm looking for. But with that said, incase it isn't really clear what I am trying to do, know that I am not trying to launch the GUI earlier that it should. The "problem" (ie: annoyance) that I am having is that using the "nv" graphics driver, once FC3 gets past the udev startup, it enters the graphic startup with the progress bar and the little picture of the computer and whatnot. Using the "nvidia" driver, the module isn't loaded early enough in the startup process so when it should go the graphic startup screen, it tries (the screen goes blank for a couple seconds) but fails and continues on with the text only startup process. I guess what I really want to know is where does the system load the "nv" module? If I could add a line to load "nvidia" right after "nv", I think that would fix it. Or is it built into the kernel? If so, I might be interested in rebuilding the kernel with "nvidia" included if someone could point me to a good step-by-step FC3-specific HOWTO.
