Lenovo Ultrabay HDD install issue

Not sure is anyone here can help me, but the internet seems to be letting me down as far as answers go.

I am running low on data space, and decided to get an SSD for my boot disk, and move my system disk into the Lenovo ultrabay. The SSD of course is great, and Fedora installed in about 4 minutes(!). The HDD in the ultrabay won't spin up, and I can't find a decent, modern set of instructions that pertain to Linux and actually explain what needs to be done to get it to work.

Does anybody know?

I suspect the solution is the linux equivalent of this:

Quote:
Here is the trick how I made that adapter to work. May be it will help you too.
As you know in T410 optical drive (DVD) automatically powers off if it is not used for some time. When DVD drive powers off, a new icon appears in My Computer. It says something like "Other E: Powered Off". If you double click that icon, DVD drive powers on again. What I did, I waited till my DVD drive powered off. After that icon came up(which says "Other E: Powered off" ). I made a shortcut of that icon on my desktop. Then I took out my DVD drive, put the ultrabay hdd adapter in, doubled clicked on that Power off icon on my desktop and that's it. This shortcut powers on the hdd adapter. If you restart Windows you'll have to double click on that icon and that's it. Ultrabay HDD will work. At least it works for me. Let me know if that helped. My english is not good but I tried my best. Of course it doesn't help the BIOS to see the hd in the ultrabay. But the trick works in Windows.

But I do not know ACPI well enough to even start.

It seems I need the OS to identify this not as a CDROM device, but as a HDD that gets constant power. I can't find anything accessible to me through the UI that allows for me to adjust the power profile.
