Well first off I'm no Linux master thats for sure. I really like the Fedora OS and i have been using the fedora 8 release for a while now. @ home i have a file / samba / Apache server which i love! I have been using live disks on my work note book so that i can get around a lot of Microsoft problems as i work in the virus removal field. Needless to say it also helps a lot when working on failing HD devices due to windows read / write problems etc etc. Long end short of it is, every fedora 8 live disk i have used works without a hitch! on at least 75 different machines a month ( mostly the i386 version ). Well at first glance all i saw for the new fedora 9 release was i686 and the x8 64 version. So i figured with all the new 64 bit systems i have crossed it would be wise to snag them both. For some reason how ever on my work notebook i can't get any version of fedora 9 to work with a GUI. I can get both to boot as I'm using a HP dv6000 series ( model = dv6810us --http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3686683& ). I always get "no monitor error" well if this was windows i would use one of my many slip stream cd creators and find the compatible driver for my monitor and go from there but with Linux I'm at a loss. I'm still rather new probably only 8 months of Linux under my belt thus far. I really don't understand why fedora 8 would have better driver support then fedora 9 as with most new releases of OS there tends to be better driver support. So basically fedora 9 for me at least is similar to windows vista in the world of driver support?? I would love to stay current and keep the OS as new as possible ( other then on my learning system back at my house ).. but without being able to use any live boot disks at work i can't spend the time trying to learn fedora 9 at the office when I'm so crunched for time and working on 10 machines a day.. PLEASE i need some direction / help. No one at my office knows anything other then windows and OS X etc. I love the fact that with fedora 8 i can solve problems that both of there OS can not ( tho mostly only when compared to windows issues ) but still! what do i do? were do i go. fedora 9 uses the VERY,VERY new xorg and not all graphics cards/ built in chipsets are supported
