KsCD permissions prob on FC3
 

Hi. Just installed FC3 after 5 days of DLing iso's on dialup. A problem I havn't come up with before is Playing Audio CD's with KsCD. Alsa works fine. Better than FC1 and FC2. Apart from setting up Alsamixer it works out of the box. I changed the path of KsCD from /dev/cdrom to /dev/hdc which is the correct path for the cdrom drive. /dev/hdc has user as root and group as disc. I changed this with, chown user_name /dev/hdc , then I could play audio cd's. The problem is. When I reboot the machine the ownership is changed back to root in /dev/hdc. I have had to change ownership in other distro's before for the cdrom drive with no problems. The only strange entry I can find is in /etc/fstab. Where the entries for the cdrom drive and floppy drive are very different to other distro's. See below.


/dev/hdc /media/cdrecorder auto pamconsole,fscontext=system_u:object_r:removable_t,ro,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto pamconsole,fscontext=system_u:object_r:removable_t,exec,noauto,managed 0 0

Data cdroms are ok. I simply open kdiskfree, mount the drive, open a file manager, and everything is there. So there doesn't seem to be a problem with the cdrom drive, and anyway it works ok with all the other distro's I run on this machine.

Theres appears to be something stopping the changes of ownership to /dev/hdc that I have made, from being permanantly saved. HELP! Nigel. aka farpoint.

Cant tell you KDE version. I'm getting 700MB+ of updates at the moment and rpm _q don't want to know while it's doing something else. Probably 3.3

Hi. Right folks. I think I've fixed the problem. Having now completed all the updates, apart from a small glitch with apt, but thats fixed as well. It's quite difficult to tell which of the updates has solved the problem, but I suspect it was the selinux update that has solved the KsCD ownership problem. When the selinux update was installed a hell of a lot of code ran on the konsole, presumably updating a lot of files. When all the updates were finished I tried KsCD and it played ok. I looked in /dev and now find there is an entry for cdrom. It is a link to /dev/hdc. Both now have ownership asigned to my username, but group is still disk.Also the floppy that had been owned by root is now owned by my username. All's well that ends well. You can't complain when you get something for nothing. Nigel. aka farpoint.
