kppp ok in fedora core2 not in rh9

Hello =)
I have a pc that is dual booting fedora core 2 and red hat 9. I have already configured ppp in fedora core 2 but the same settings does not work in red hat 9. while kppp in fedora core 2 detects my modem (modem not responding), kppp in rh9 doesn't. what must be wrong in here? (i tried out all /dev/ttySx in rh9 if any would work. additionally, wvdialconf detects my modem in fc2 not in rh9. both minicom can send AT commands to my modem.)
thanks in advance =)
