kernel source and .o to .ko objects (fc3)

OK!!! Here is what I have...
asus m5np laptop with ipw2200 and orinoco classic gold card.

in order to get my orinoco to rfmon, I downloaded the kernel source from kernel.org and applied the diff...

but, once i compile the kernel, it works ok. get some errors on the orinoco.h/c and hermes.c/h
but seems to compile ok. Now the problem is...

when I run the make modules_install command...

it looks for the .ko objects, but when i compile it makes the objects into .o

So, i have to go back and rename all the objects from .o to .ko

really annoying... i tried a cp *.o *.ko but it doesnt want to do a bulk copy like that.

can anybody help me with this? there are a crazy amount of objects that i have to rename...

also the other thing...

for fc3 is it ok to use the vanilla source off kernel.org or should I find a specific kernel source?

Sorry... one last questions... anybody know when they expect to have ipw2200 support rfmon?

Thanks for your help...

To rename your files, run:

"ls -d *.o | sed 's/\(.*\).o$/mv "&" "\1.ko"/' | sh"

You can use whatever kernel you choose, but there are patches applied to the FC kernels that you won't have with on from k.org. It's not a huge deal to some, but be aware that some things may not work correctly.
I'd try first to get the sources for FC and patch, the patch may or may not apply cleanly to those sources though. In that case, you'll either need to modify the patch or just use the vanilla kernel.

ok, other problems...

So, I just went and downloaded the 0.15rc2 orinoco drivers and applied them...

and... now my pcmcia seems to be crapping up... gives me something like a socket 2 error... before i installed the drivers, it worked ok, but no rfmon... then applied new drivers and it wont show up in iwconfig... oddly enough, in the gui under hardware it does show up under network devices... as eth2... but... not so...

but, when i plug it in, or un plugg my card it nothing much happenes.

but when i pcmcia restart it gives me the error.
