Kernel Panic Error Message on boot for FC5
Hi,
Today I installed Fedora Code 5 on my new machine which I assembled at home. The installation went fine after an initial problem (had to type linux all-generic-ide pci='nommconf' command to install it) , but after successful installation, I am getting this error Unable to access resume device (LABEL = SWAP - hdn12) mount : could not find file system '/dev/root' setuproot: moving /dev failed : no such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /proc : no such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /sys : no such file or directory switchroot : mount failed : no such file or directory Kernel panic - not syncing: Attemped to kill init ! I have the following config: Intel DQ965GF motherboard 1Gb (2 DIMM Corsair) SDRAM Maxtor 200Gb IDE hard drive. Can anyone please help me to reach a successful boot? Any help would be appreciated! |

I am actually having a similar problem. I installed fedora core 6 from DVD fine (after a few setbacks at first). I go to boot and it says:

solution
Try doing this..
1. when it boots press ENTER and 'e' (e for edit) to enter the grub. If you have a dual boot, then just use the arrow keys and select fedora and press 'e' 2. In your kernel line add this -> rhgb quiet pci=nommconf all-generic-ide So, your kelnel line will be like this: kernel ........ rhgb quiet pci=nommconf all-generic-ide Press 'b' to boot. If it works, then when it boots correctly, modify the /etc/grub.conf and add the same thing in there and it will be there when you boot next time and you don't need to do it every time you boot. Hope it helps. Amol |

The notebook i am using is: HP Pavilion DV6119us AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-50 80gb SATA internal hdd 1gb DDR RAM nVidia GeForce Go 6150 128mb Shared I have my hdd split into one 40gb partition for Windows XP, 1.29gb for SWAP, 13.34 gb for \, and 19.7gb for \home (i think cant remember exactly) If you need anything else, please lemme know, Thanks! |
I had an IDE hard drive and so it worked for me. It required the "all-generic-ide" parameter and rhgb quiet.
Unfortunately I did not try it with a sata drive. Try posting a message on fedoraforums.org There you will find a post in my name. The replier to that post had helped. You may try asking him. Good luck. |
