kernel 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6xen reboots very often

Hi,

If I boot kernel 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6 and use X there are no problems. But if I boot kernel 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6xen my PC resets within a couple of minutes.

The only new drivers I intalled are:
1. Nvidia
2. Linuxwacom (think this is opensource)
3. NTFS-3G

I can't even look at any logs. Just before the reset, the mouse just freezes, then the PC resets. I don't have a Nvidia module for the Xen kernel so I'm guessing it's not the problem.

Please help me debug this issue.

Thanks,
Sarav

Question Same Problem Here

I never used the command line shell of linux and I use X and have the same problem.
I am not a professional linux user but:

1- how can I boot to command line (my default shell is X and I do not want to change it but I want to be able to boot to command line at one time or another, to check this reboot problem occurs when at command line or not)?

2- I have not installed any RPM (no driver , no application) other than the stable ones released by Red Hat Company for Fedora Core 6!

3- I used software updater so my FC6 is the most recent (I have installed all updates)!

4- booting to kernel 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen does not have this reboot problem
I guess the Kernel 2.6.19 also does not have this problem ( I had installed 2.6.19 and didnt have problem)

(now I have both 2.6.18 and 2.6.20 on my boot loader so i Choose 2.6.18 and my system works properly) but when I boot to 2.6.20 the reboot problem occurs

5- Is there any chance that Kernel uses a log file that I can trace the cause of this action? (I do not think that my system may have had the chance to log the error even if the Kernel uses some sort of logging)

6- Any one can tell why this reboot occurs?

7- My Hardware config is as follows:
Mainboard: Asus P4P 800 X (Most recent stable BIOS form Asus company)
Graphics: nVidia Ge Force 4 mx 440
Processor: Intel P4 Celeron 2.53 GHz
Ram: 512 (2 x 256) kingstone 400
Monitor LG 15 inch Studio works 575c
HDD: 2 IDE and 1 SATA (linux is installed on one of IDE HDDs the other one is windows and the SATA one is empty)
Sony Combo DVDROM CD Writer, Pioneer DVD Writer
ADSL modem connected to a LAN card
the onBoard LAN card is not connected to any device (no Cable) and is deactive by default
both lan cards are: RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
Technisat SkyStar2 DVB Card
Intel Dial up modem: 536EP Data Fax Modem
OnBoard Sound Card that linux detects as : 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller
USB mouse: A4 Tech
TVM USB Keyboard

I didn't try the 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen. So how do I install 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen if I'm already in a higher version of the kernel. I know how to download and install the RPM, but can I do it from yum or pirut?

Thanks,
Sarav

Unhappy

I used software Updater to update the kernel and It didnt remove the old kernel it just added the new kernel to the boot loader. I personally dont know how to downgrade the kernel. but i guess there are a lot of resources about this topic on the internet!
