KDE won't load in FC9 after yum update

Hi there, I just installed fc9 this morning. Did a
yum update -y; init 6
and went for lunch. came home, logged in. all I can get is the desktop image, no k menu or anything like that. I am able to right click on the desktop and open a terminal and then web browser, but that is it. The little 'add widget' is there as well. I did try installing the latest nvidia drivers from livna as well.

well I kind of got it sorted. When I log in as root the desktop loads up just fine. Whenever the system goes down without shutting down properly, it craps out. I think I am going to downgrade to FC8...
