kde, gnome, x-windows,

What is the difference between x-windows and kde? Do you need both applications if you are running kde GUI system in fedora core 1?

the short answer is yes, you need X Window System to run kde/gnome, etc. (otoh, you don't need kde/gnome to run X. ;)) one way to think of it might be that kde and the other desktops are like applications for X. cheers.

therefore I can uninstll gnome and leave kde and x-windows?

Yes, it's possible. In order to run Gnome-based applications you should have installed some gnome-libraries. So, if you have enough disk space, why don't you keep both Kde and Gnome ?

I think you can uninstall Gnome with the programm 'system-install-packages'.

To leave GNome or Not?

If I decide to leave gnome installed and only use kde what can be some security risks?

TO uninstall gnome, what do I have to do?
