It takes almost 30 minutes for the icons and taskbars to load after login with Gnome

FEDORA 7

I have a tri-boot set up as shown in the signature.
The delay mentioned in the subject box takes place only if Gnome is chosen.

If I choose KDE there is no delay . same with XFCE and Windowmaker.
Have tried a lot of things including putting off many services. And looked under Sessions etc.
The system monitor shows nothign unusual . No process seems to be hogging the CPU.
What could be wrong.?

Sometimes there is no delay ..
Have also Shutdown now -F

Use normal font size, please - that's fairly annoying to read :)

Have you tried creating a brand new user (that then has no other settings for Gnome than the defaults) and testing if that user also experiences the same? To find out if it's about your per-user configuration or maybe something system-wide..

And is there anything curious in X logfile? Did you try logging in with network enabled/disabled, does it make any difference (a wild guess, probably nothing)?

Thank you .
I have had this problem before but forget how I got around it...
I brought up KDE. Uninstalled and reinstalled gnome-applets . Some error had come up about applets during ..
This did not help.
Hope the size is OK .. Intended to only a small part bold.. :)

Creating a new user solved the problem .. However copying the home directory brought it back again. I finally got rid of it by copying back an old image of the partition ( few days old ).
However the chances of the problem appearing are still high and I would like to know what should I look into..
