You need the rythmbox plugins installed.

Then go to Edit>Preferences>Plugins and go down the list and check the box for Song Lyrics.

High light the Song Lyrics line in that box and then click on the preferences button on that box. This will give you another box with a sellection of sources for lyrics. I select all of them.

This should, when you are playing a tune, give you an active option View>Song Lyrics.

The lyrics will be saved in ~/.cache/rhythmbox/lyrics/<artist name>

OK, I am not really very expert at RH branch Linux.

I have Fedora17 Xfce installed. Does not come with Rhythmbox.

So I popped over here to my Testing Platform (external usb enclosure with 2 320gig sata drives in it) where Fedora is installed. Installed Rhythmbox.

Appears that the plugins required in Debian branch distros are installed with Rhythmbox. These are simply addons that have been developed over the years to increase functionality. I believe the Song Lyrics have been around since some thing in the Rhythmbox 9.x era.

Simpl pull up Rhymthm Box and go to Edit>Plugins. Click on Plugins.

This will give you a popup box with the list of plugins installed. Scroll down to Song Lyrics and check that box to enable it.

Click on the Song Lyrics title in that list. This will enable the Preferences button on that popup box (bottom left). This will give you a list of lyrics sources. Put a checkmark for all 4 sources.

Click on Close for that box. Close the plugins popup box.

Start a song.

Go to Veiw>Song Lyrics and click on that. You should get, assuming the lyrics are in one of the sources, the lyrics for that song. The Song Lyrics will continue to get lyrics for every song played until you close the Song Lyrics box.

They will be stored in your ~/.cache/rhythmbox/lyrics directory. You can get to this by simply opening your file manager and hitting Ctrl+h. This will show your "hidden" files such as .cache (all hidden files start with a "." .

The sources are pretty good but they, of coarse, do not have all lyrics to all songs ever written. You will see what the lyrics syntax is by looking at what Song Lyrics comes up with. You can then add lyrics with the same style file names to the list in the same Directory.

There are a couple of scripts out on the net that I have seen for grabbing lyrics from other sources and putting them in that directory with proper syntax too. Have no idea if they are any good or even safe to use. Just something you could look into.

There is another plugin for Rhythmbox at their site but written by someone else that is supposed to help too in some way. Check their site.
