hi!
i have RH8 and i wish to update it to FC 3
i would like to know is it possible to update RH8 to FC3 using up2date
And how much i have to download
also RH8 is very slow on my system (celeron 2.2Ghz ,128 Ram)
will FC3 will be faster than RH8
thanx
i installed fedora 3 on my system and its fast.. however it does state that you require 198 meg of rem to run a gui.. i dont know but i suspect that you will find it slow with a gui as you are below the minimum required spec
I have a 600mhz Solo 1150 with only 192meg memory and it runs just fine... OpenOffice is slow, but other than that... not bad.. Couldn't imagine how fast at 2.2ghz...
I used to run RH9, and when I loaded FC2 on that same box, it was indeed faster. I now run FC3, and it's as fast as FC2.
Like others have said, you'll want to add 128 to 256 K of RAM to you system or else it will be sluggish.
I've just installed FC3 on a dual boot laptop that only has 128 MB of ram for a friend, and FC3 running
Gnome does run a little slugish, but it's much faster than Win2K on that same system.
Tip: don't upgrade. You'll have a lot of odd little problems pop up if you do. Back up and fresh install.
That's the only way to go!
Im running FC3 with KDE on a PIII 700Mhz with 384MB of ram and Ive never seen linux run so fast! Granted Ive removed most things (ie my installation was around 1.2GB). Im just using this as a samba server (needs more work, can see this one from my windows boxes, but cant share anything), but I may be switching all my boxes over to FC3, if I can figure out how to actually install rpms and be able to use them (ie: I installed the realvnc rpm and I have NO idea where it went :P) anyway, I suggest that you install a bit more ram, it's really cheap now-a-days, and wow, can it ever make a HUGE difference.
Anyway, enough blabering from me.
Here so nice a gui on Fedara ,but i donnot think the Xservice on Fedara more stable
than RH9, while it hunhp ,use CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE cannot cause stop instead
of restart in RH9,but still ,i like it .
