I am running Fedora Core 2 and am setting up a mail server.
Postfix is configured and I have no problems
I use a no-ip domain name added in /etc/hosts - hostname- main: - domain: - abc.no-ip.info
(this is configured correctly)
I enabled ipop3d in xinetd
I temporarily removed my firewall and setup my router to forward ports 100-120 and 20-80
I can send messages via sendmail,
but I cannot recieve any.
how do I set my box up for recieving mail
P.S If I setup kontact (on my computer) to send mail to my computer's server via isp email account, it works. But, using isp email via web-based interface, it won't work
You seem to be confused about POP3 and SMTP, since you don't mention how you expect to receive mail. POP3 is a protocol for network based mailbox access and has nothing to do with receiving mail unless you use a POP3 client program which polls a server and retrieves messages to store them on the local system (e.g. fetchmail).
For proper configuration of sendmail, start with reading the sendmail.mc config template and enable sendmail to listen on more than the loopback interface.
