intermittent sound problem

Hi, I'm running Fedora 7 (32 bit, the 64 bit was too much headache). I got a weird intermittent sound problem that I don't even know what to google for.

What happens is, when I first boot up, everything works fine. Then when I leave my computer alone & it goes to sleep, when it wakes up, some applications have no sound.

One is Diablo II running on Wine.

The other is MythTV.

Other applications always have sound, like XMMS, MPlayer and Firefox.

I'd like to be able to stop and start something to get sound back without rebooting. Even better would be to stop it from happening in the 1st place.

I have an HP Pavilion m7667c. The mother board is an Asus P5BW-LA. It has a on-board soundcard, Realtek ALC 882 chipset.

Thanks in advance for any help.

update:

Gah... this system is really getting on my last nerve.

In addition to my random sound problems (sometimes just happens, system doesn't need to go to sleep), I have random video codec problems. MPlayer will suddenly lose video (though the sound still works, gotta love the irony)

And now, my system can't find my video card... the same card that's been working just fine since I installed. I get the nvidia splash screen, so the drivers are there, just can't find the card. Think I'll go get drunk.
