Installing Vega Strike, having trouble installing SDL_mixer-devel

Fedora 8 - Patched
HP Omnibook 6100

Installing dependencies for vegastrike.i386

Crashed with this:

Transaction Check Error:
file /etc/profile.d/SDL_pulseaudio_hack.csh from install of SDL_mixer-1.2.8-4.fc8.i386 conflicts with file from package SDL-1.2.13-2.fc8.i386
file /etc/profile.d/SDL_pulseaudio_hack.sh from install of SDL_mixer-1.2.8-4.fc8.i386 conflicts with file from package SDL-1.2.13-2.fc8.i386

I think it means that I have a later version of the pulse audio drivers installed.

Is that correct?

If so, how can I set them back? Is there any way to get this game to work?

Thanks,

CX

Yep, looks that way.

Update the package SDL_mixer or

remove it with (root access)

rpm -e SDL_mixer --nodeps

then install the correct version with your favourite package manager,

Cheers, Glenn

If I update package SDL_mixer, how would that help? Wouldn't that make it to an even newer version?

I already installed the standard fd8 version from the yum repositories.

Also found the older version. Is this a reversion that could cause other unexpected issues? I don't want to put my overall sound at risk.

When I setup sauerbratten, I had to install these as well as any dev packages fro them...

OpenGL, SDL, SDL_Mixer, SDL_Image, zlib, libpng

But, sauerbratten has a devel where you can write your own modules, I think that is what the devel is about,

What I meant before was to get the versions sorted, better to go new than to go back to old.(bugs)

The older version "SDL_mixer-1.2.8-4.fc8.i386" is conflicting with the main SDL package "SDL-1.2.13-2.fc8.i386",

The older package is trying to run a script that may be already run by the parent.

So if you update/upgrade the sdl-mixer to the same ver as the sdl(main) package then the dependencies might sort them selves out. (my opinion)

That is why I mentioned the sdl-mixer. It should not interfere with your audio.

Good luck.
