Installing Fedora 3 with old configurations?
 

Well, I just now changed the motherboard & CPU of my Fedora Core 3 System and got a weird Kernel Panic during the system load.
I figure this means that Linux has the same problem as Windows with auto-detecting the motherboard chipset.
Now - I've spend a looo~ng time setting up the old System, so I'd really like to have my old settings back - including all the programs I've installed (well - at least them rpms).
Since the new motherboard is almost the same as the old one (the CPU is still from AMD - probably even the very same), I figured that it shouldn't exactly be a problem to do so... but I just don't know how.
Isn't there maybe a way to just "update" the hardware specific configurations - or do I have to reinstall Fedora Core 3 and then copy all my old files onto the new installation (question here would be what exactly I'd have not to copy - since I wouldn't want to overwrite the new hardware configurations...)?

use the first cd as linux rescue and change to your fedora core with:
chroot=/mnt/sysimage
reinstall the kernel and reboot if still the same problem choose the upgrade from the installation memu.

How exactly do I reinstall the Kernel while I'm in rescue mode, is there some kind of command for that?

Well - I just tried it out, but I wasn't able to chroot /mnt/sysimage after I went into the rescue mode - because the rescue disk wasn't able to create a system image...
Trying to update through the grafical interface was a downfall as well, since I got a message, that the "/" partition couldn't be mounted...

Since the system wasn't mounted automatically (in the rescue mode), I mounted it myself and changed the names of my HDs within /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/grub.conf cause the new motherboard messed those up a little bit...
