in linux

download the dvd image
mount it using

Code:
     mount -t iso9660 -o loop image.iso /mnt/isoimage
if wanting to install from the hard drive. copy the files into a directory on your hd. lets say /update
I always install from a web server. copy the files to a directory on the webserver

in the iso there is a dir called images
burn the diskboot.img to a cd-r

boot up the computer
at boot type

linux askmethod

this will bring up the prompts
select the install from hard drive or http

i hope this makes sense

??? huh?

I don't quite understand. I'm doing a clean install to a new hard drive, so how do I install if I have the DVD ISO image is on my Mac OS X or WinXP box or USB hard drive (it's a USB 1.1 system I'm installing on)?

If you have nothing on the computer you're installing to at present, then putting the files on there is going to be difficult! Therefore, as jebaird says, you probably need to set up one of your local network computers as a web or ftp server and install from there.

okay. my ftp and http ports are not standard, how do I specify a different port?

is it even possible to simply copy the DVD image to a USB hard drive and install from there or the fedora boot disc won't detect and mount the USB drive?

You might well have to mount the USB hard drive yourself, but it might work, worth a try anyway. Not sure how you'd connect to ftp on a non-standard port, but have you tried hostname.domain:port ?

I couldn't find a way to specifiy a port for a FTP nor HTTP isntallation, so I simply change the port to the default 21 on my FTP server. I was hesitant to change the port only because it's on a WinXP box and of course the default ports on a Windows box are vulnerable to attacks and such.

Anyways, got it installed via FTP just fine.

Thanks for ya'll help.
