Very strange!
I just had the same problem the other day, trying to access my fat drive. And I was able to check out my partitions useing "fdisk -l".
Ok stupid question but it is an error that i committed some time back...Your not typing command useing " are you?
probably not but we need to eliminate any typing errors! I kind of hope that this is the problem because otherwise, i'm 'stummped'! Ill go and try to search out an answer while waiting for your reply.
If you have a terminal to use then im sure that all the commands are there. Im still new to linux but try different consoles and see what you get.

hi.
you can just run fdisk as "root". type "su -", give your root-password and you should be able to use fdisk. you can control the presence of fdisk with "whereis fdisk" it should give you /sbin/fdisk. this is the path where fdisk is installed. the folder sbin contains just programm, which only can be used by root.
the usbdevice normally hasn't to be mounted when using fc4. should be detected and mounted automatically. plug in the usbdevice and check for a sda-device with "fdisk -l" (or take a look at mtab: "cat /etc/mtab"). for removable device you don't have to edit the fstab.
thanks, was able to get it to work with /sbin/fdisk -l i guess then the command fdisk is not as global in my computer as I wanted. cfdisk didnt work either by the way.
One last question. So then to the fstab file i just add the info straight as it is in fdisk?
ok I just realized that just as you said whenever I do connect something it is automatically added to my fstab file and therefore i really dont need to do any editing to it. i was able to mount my fat32 external hard drive manually with mount /dev/sda3 /media/usbdrive which is ok as to accessing things. Im going to be playing around with the mount module in enlightenment to try to do this wihtout needing to mount it manually. thanks for all your help.
