Install network card Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Servers adapter
 

Hello!

I have the problem with setting 2 network cards Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Servers adapters. I have the server based on the motherboard Intel SE7210TP1 with processor PIV 3GHz conducted by OS Linux Fedora

Core 1 (kernel 2.4.22-smp). There are 5 network interfaces on my server:
1) eth0 – 100 Mb onboard (PRO/100+, chip - 82551QM)
2) eth1 – 1 Gb onboard (PRO/1000, chip - 82547EI)
3) eth2 – 1 Gb Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Servers adapter ----------- this is one
4) eth3 – 1 Gb Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Servers adapter ----+ network card
5) eth4 – 1 Gb 3Com905 (32-bit pci slot)

I need to add 2 more networks interfaces with the help of setting one more card Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Servers adapters. After setting this card while initializing network interfaces it gives me a warning: "modprobe: can’t locate module 0". The interfaces ( eth5 and eth6) do not appear. Some devices appear /dev/<some numbers> and I can’t configure them as networks interfaces. These devices can be seen if you perform the command ifconfig –a:
dev2562 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:23:A9:4C:6F
.....
dev8864 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:23:A9:4C:6E
.....

This configuration can be completed only by 1 Gb interfaces Intel PRO/1000 MT. When I insert the card Intel PRO/1000 MT (single port, not dual) the network interfaces eth5 appears. I can’t get 2 necessary network interfaces with the card Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Servers adapter. It seems to me it’s impossible to set more than 4 Gb interfaces in one system.
I ask you help in this problem.

I am curious as to why you need this many interfaces in a single system.

For routing many subnetwork.
This network card (more 6 interfaces) work fine in OS Windows (2000-2003) and Netware 6.5. Why 7-8 network interfaces not work in Linux?

There's no reason (that I'm aware of) that you can't have 8 interfaces under linux. Perhaps it has to do with having 2 devices under the same driver. While this should work, you may need to specify the base or irq for the devices.
