Install fedora 3 with Intel 82810E graphics Controller
I am having display problems with the Fedora Core 3 install when it first goes to reboot system.
using a Dell optiplex 110 desktop with pentium 3 processor Intel 82810E video card HP mx703 display. 3com 3c920 network card. I have tried several of the modifications to the startup of the kernel but no sucess. I have no problems with Core 2 install. I could not do an update to Core 3 and did a fresh install. Any suggestions? Thank You. Larry. I am a supporting member as of today. |

You might want to describe the actual problem you're having. That is, what *exactly* is it doing or not doing?

All goes well during the install process until it says to reboot.
then when it starts the screen is a blur of color dots and shapes. Then the picture of the crt appears and a progress bar as it is starting the system. then a second progress bar appears above that one. if you move the cursor the screen somewhat clears and you can read some of the starting process lines and the OK When the desktop comes up the drop down boxes for selections only appear when you move the cursor over them. If you select an item it does not open the window and if you move the cursor over where the window would be you will then see items appear. I struggled with up2date as I sort of know where the continue and OK areas are and downloaded the new Kernel and when it was booted then the screen was blank and nothing would happen. Hope this helps. Larry |
Indeed it does.
The problem is likely in grub. Do you see the pretty boot graphic and menu in grub or is the screen garbled at that point? If it is, you need to get to a root prompt and edit grub's menu.lst file (shoulde in /boot/grub) and comment out the line that sets the SplashImage |
I do get the menu stating reboot in so many seconds.
If you hit the down arrow it will list the other system you can boot. It is after that when it starts loading that all goes kaput. |
Ah ... Ok. That's another matter then.
I don't recall exactly, but I think if you edit the kernel line (put the selector over the one you boot and press 'e') in the grub menu you'll find that it has rhgb in it. Remove that and boot (press 'b'). If that works, remove it from the lines in the menu.lst file mentioned in my last post. |
Thank you. I had read that in someone else's post. Will try it. I did re install and finally got to the screen where I could set up the monitor. That did help. However I could not use Gedit as SU said authentification not there or denied.
Thank You. Larry. |
good morning sigsegv
I have been able to get the system up. I have never edited before but figured it out. I had to rebuild my whole hard drive. right now I was able to get into firefox and send this. screens and background do not work right. they break up . applications when you open have nothing in them until you move the cursor around. Could the refresh rate have anything to do with that. this screen is at 1078x768 or whatever that rate is. scrolling does not allow the screen to appear right. thank you larry |
Good morning again.
Well I got all of the updates downloaded and installed and all seems to be working well. Thank you for all of the tips and help. Larry. |

Fedora 3 and intel 82810E
After removing the rhgb from the grub I was then able to get up and running on the desktop.
However when trying to open any application the window is a mess. I got up2date open and expanded the window and was able to download and update my system and now everything seems to be working fine. I hope this helps. Larry. |
