Inserting a CD into CD-R Drive Locks Up System

I recently installed Fedora Core 3 on my system. I have gotten everything working with the exception of my CD-R drive. The system recognizes the drive and I can even eject it without problems. However, when I put a CD into the drive (blank or regular) the system attempts to mount the drive and then locks up. It appears there is no way to recover short of a power cycle.

Has anyone experienced such a problem? Can you tell me what processes Fedora Core 3 runs when a CD is inserted into the dirve? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

which process is run may depend on the graphical environment you use (seriously) if its gnome, I think its done with hald or something like that.

kde uses another program. If I were you I'd troubleshoot why its locking up, not how you can keep it from automounting.

Running GNOME

I am indeed running GNOME. I guess I should look into hald to see what it is doing and why it might be locking up the system. Does anyone have any ideas?
