I need help to get 1440x900 resolution pls

Aloha everyone,

I recently switched from Fedora to SuSE because I wanted to see what the "other guys" offer, but also due to my inability to get 1440x900 resolution in FC3. I tried FC4, but any time the sound card was used, the system froze. That's OK, because I liked FC3.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I bought an HP Pavilion zd8110us, which is an awesome laptop (if you don't consider the crappy battery life), and FC3 installed without a problem, except that even when I selected a generic setting for an LCD monitor with 1440x900 resolution, in the middle drop-down box (the one with the actual resolutions in it), 1440x900 was not an option. There is probably a file where I can handjam the information, but I don't want to reload FC3 and screw up the whole thing. Does anyone have any clues as to where I can find out how to get that resolution, or is it not possible in FC3?

Mahalo in advance for your assistance,

Bud Jones

The resolution on that menue are from the driver - you may want to try several that are close until you find one that supports the resolution you want.

Try fiddling the monitor/screen bits in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

You may want to copy this file to a different name as a backup, say:
$ cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.old
