I like the convenience of NetworkManager but I'd like to go with manual configuration
Can someone submit a working wireless ifcfg file? I boot into multi-user run level and NetworkManager only connects in GUI. Maybe I should post this in Networking forum but sometimes configuration differs between distributions. What I want is to connect in multi-user level and do away with NetworkManager, I don't really like not knowing what's going on. When I run "ifconfig" I want to see what my IP is. Thanks ahead of time.
Just remove the networkmanager rpm. You can also set a directive in your ifcfg file to have it not be managed by network manager.
Code:
NM_CONTROLLED=no
Thank you for your reply. I want to have a working ifcfg file before I remove networkmanager. Nice tip about the switch to disable it, I'll make use of that while working on the ifcfg file getting password, etc set up. I just need a sample file to go by.

Network manager has built your ifcfg files for you, they should already be set with your network info. Just edit the existing ones and add the flag to disable NetworkManager modifying it.
If you're using NetworkManager and want to access it from a simple terminal, look at nmcli (which should already be installed as part of the NM package).
You could also try the wicd package and the wicd-curses client thereto. The latter is a nice ncurses "network manager" that works well from a terminal.
