I don't know how to deal with this:


/tmp/jre-1_5_0_10-linux-i586-rpm.bin could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

By implication, you tried double-clicking on that file. This only works if an association has been established.

What are you trying to do? Install java? Are you following the instructions here?

I guess you are trying to install the Sun Java Runtime Environment in fedora core 6 - is this correct?

It looks like you have tried to execute the self-extracting rpm by double-clicking on the icon... you have to run it in a shell:

sh /tmp/jre-1_5_0_10-linux-i586-rpm.bin

It may also help to install java-1.5.0-sun-compat
