I am thinking about trying out Fedora...
 

...but I had a few questions first...

i know fedora is still really new but from what i hear, its very close to RHL9. does anyone know how similar it is to RHEL? i mean on the basis of how it works, location of config files... etc.

does RH still have some kind of up2date system on fedora?

finally, how fast is the devel cycle for fedora?

Fedora might be characterized as a test version of what might have ended up as Red Hat 10, desktop edition. It has the latest versions of the KDE and GNOME desktop environments, up2date, rpm, and yum as packaging tools, and it also has the capability of working with apt and synaptic packaging tools.

Development cycle is approximately every six months, but I could be off slightly on that. Next release is in the April timeframe, last I checked.

as long as it has up2date, i think itll be alright. sure, ill give it a try sometimg. im trying to find a distro to replace RHL for my desktop.

The only distro of them all that works with my hardware and yes it does have up2date and should work with your current redhat id or key. This basically is the new redhat because redhat is only pushing its enterprise edition and turning over the personal edition to Fedora.

I have found Fedora to be a great OS so far. I've installed it on 3 different laptop models and a desktop with only a few minor problems (manually configure video, etc.) and even that was only on 1 of the laptops. As long as there are prompt updates, I think it'll be a great replacement for RHL 9 which is what I was using.

Still not sure what I'm going to replace my RH servers with... RHEL is expensive!!

yep, im thinking about what to put on my servers as well. everything right now points in the direction of freebsd and debian.
