HOWTO Run as root in graphical environment
I would like to know how to run a graphical application as root (for ex /applications/system tools/network tools)

Log in as root.

Hold everything, the title of your post got me off-guard once I read your post. So let me clarify... you are in a regular user account and want to execute a graphical app with root powers, right? If so there are several ways, if your are using KDE just run

kdesu appyouwannarun
or type from your console (or konsole again -if you use KDE)

su -c "appyouwannarun"
. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Avoid log in as root. :D

Thanks mebrelith.

I also thought to log in as root is not the best way, Often I'm in my user account and need to run text editor as root. Running vi in terminal is to difficult for me, don't know the command structure of vi. But the graphical Text editor! As long as I'm root!

You said su -c "appyyouwannarun" but are the names that clear/ For example, su -c "smug menu editor" returned a com, mand not found.

The command is just smeg, so you would do

$su -c "smeg"
I think XavierP meant that you can switch to root using su or su - whilst logged in as a normal user, so you won't be really starting a full graphical session for root.

I was being facetious:)
